A mulher negra na literatura de autoria negra: silenciamentos, ancestralidade e resistência em Ponciá Vicêncio de Conceição Evaristo

Abstract

Conceição Evaristo’s writing, mediated by her “Escrevivência,” a concept coined by the author, expresses the power of a writing that seeks to expose, through her works, the cultural and social historicity of a specific part of the Brazilian population, the black people. The work of the Afro-Brazilian author takes a strong approach and represents black people in the work Ponciá Vicêncio. In this novel, the author brings out the worldview related to the history, culture and experience of being black and a woman in Brazilian society. The general objective of this work is to analyze the work Ponciá Vicêncio, by Conceição Evaristo, based on a writing by a black author that brings to its narrative the representation of a black woman, considering as excerpts to discuss the formation of a Brazilian literature by black authorship, considering the authorship and representation of the black woman, her protagonism and place of speech, as well as to analyze the representation of the black woman in the work, Ponciá Vicêncio, by Conceição Evaristo, especially that of the protagonist, based on the silences, ancestry and resistance. As a result of the analysis of Ponciá Vicêncio, we highlight the role of ancestry as a central element in the construction of the narrative, functioning as a guiding thread that connects past and present and gives cohesion to the protagonist's identity. By rescuing ancestry as a central element, the work highlights the importance of cultural roots and memory as tools of resistance and strengthening of black identity. Another significant result is the reaffirmation of the concept of "escrevivência", which, in addition to constituting a literary methodology, acts as a means of political and cultural demand that removes the black population from the silenced condition, especially black women.
