A importância da aplicação da leitura literária nos anos finais do ensino fundamental

Abstract

Literary reading plays a central role in the comprehensive development of students, especially in the final years of elementary school, when young people go through a crucial phase of cognitive, emotional, and social development. It is at this stage that literature can act as a transformative element, contributing to the construction of critical thinking, the development of empathy, and the enrichment of students' cultural repertoire. Given this reality, this research entitled "The importance of applying literary reading in the final years of elementary school" had as its general objective to research the importance of literary reading in the final years of elementary school, highlighting its impacts on the cognitive, emotional, and social development of students, and proposing effective pedagogical strategies for its application in the teaching of the Portuguese language. In addition, the research aimed to identify the benefits of literary reading in the final years of elementary school for the development of students' reading and critical analysis skills; to explore how literary reading can stimulate students' imagination and creativity, even in the face of digital distractions, promoting their interest in literary texts; and to propose effective pedagogical strategies to engage students in literary reading, promoting empathy and understanding of different cultural and social perspectives. To achieve these objectives, an exploratory bibliographic research was conducted through the reading of articles, monographs available on the internet and Google Scholar. Thus, the theoretical foundation was based on the following authors: Lagolo (1995), Martins (2009), Aguiar (1988) (1994), Leite (1988) among others. The research evidenced the relevance of literary reading in the final years of elementary school for the comprehensive development of students, improving reading skills, critical analysis, imagination, and empathy. In addition, it highlighted effective pedagogical strategies to engage students, even in the face of digital distractions, reinforcing the transformative role of literature in teaching the Portuguese language
