A importância da leitura no ensino fundamental

Abstract

The research entitled "The Importance of Reading in Elementary School" understands reading as an indispensable tool in aiding student learning. This study is justified by the need to highlight the relevance of reading in Elementary School in the teaching-learning process, as well as in the formation of knowledge and in preparing citizens for life. Thus, the following problem is highlighted: What is the greatest difficulty, given the reality of Portuguese language teaching, in awakening students' interest in reading in their daily lives? The general objective is to highlight the importance of reading for students' academic performance and intellectual growth in the construction of new knowledge. To achieve this, the following specific objectives were defined: to describe the importance of reading practice in Elementary School; to present the importance of reading strategies in Elementary School; to understand the need to encourage the habit of reading in Portuguese language classes. The theoretical basis for reading practices in elementary school was based on several scholars who emphasize the importance of this habit for the integral development of students, such as: Azevedo (2012), (BNCC, 2018), Bamberger (1995) and Solé (1998), (Geraldi, 2011), Freire (1989), Ferreiro (1990) and Martins (1986). The research showed that reading is essential in elementary education, highlighting its importance in the academic and intellectual development of students. KEYWORDS: Reading. Elementary Education.
