dc.description.resumoEste trabalho de conclusão de curso teve como objetivo geral analisar a representação da mulher no romance gótico The Silent Companions (2017) da autora Laura Purcell. através de uma pesquisa bibliográfica em que foram analisados quinze extratos do livro The Silent Companions. Através do método hipotético dedutivo, analisando a literatura gótica feminina no século XVIII e a mulher no período vitoriano. Os principais autores usados como embasamento teórico das análises feitas foram Macandrew (1924), Buckley (1951), Vicinus (1972), Horner; Zlosnik (2016), e Smith (2017). Por meio desta pesquisa, foi possível confirmar que a Literatura Gótica feminina cerceou o estereótipo de mulher passiva, angelical, amorosa e direcionada apenas para os filhos, no século XVIII as mulheres do período defenderam suas ideias através dos contos de horror; na obra The Silent Companions) explicitado a mulher como um ser inferior e perverso, posteriormente, decorridos por meio da narrativa e os elementos góticos: a loucura, desespero, discrepância, tormentos e insanidade; na Era Vitoriana (1832-1901) houve uma desigualdade acerca das mulheres, considerando-as mentalmente vulneráveis e intelectualmente inferiores aos homens no período, por isso, sofriam diversas repressões, retratadas no livro analisado.por
dc.description.abstractThis course conclusion work had as a general objective to analyze the representation of women in the gothic novel The Silent Companions (2017) by author Laura Purcell. through a bibliographical research in which fifteen extracts from the book The Silent Companions through the hypothetical deductive method, analyzing the female gothic literature in the eighteenth century and the woman in the Victorian period. The main authors used as a theoretical basis for the analyzes were Macandrew (1924), Buckley (1951), Vicinus (1972), Horner; Zlosnik (2016), and Smith (2017). Through this research that stated that female Gothic Literature curbed the stereotype of a passive, angelic, loving woman directed only to her children in the 18th century, the women of the period defended their ideas through horror stories; in the work The Silent Companions explaining the woman as an inferior and perverse being, later, elapsed through the narrative and the Gothic elements: madness, despair, discrepancy, torments and insanity; in the Victorian Era (1832-1901) there was inequality regarding women, considering them mentally vulnerable and intellectually inferior to men in the period, therefore, they suffered various repressions, portrayed in the analyzed book.eng
