Abstract

At the beginning of the second decade of the XXI century, we experienced the phenomenon of the Covid-19 pandemic. Identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, the SARS-CoV-2 virus spread worldwide, leading the World Health Organization (WHO) to classify the situation as a pandemic in March 2020. Based on a national analysis, a significant portion of the approximately seven hundred thousand Brazilian lives lost to the virus can be associated, among other factors, with the indifference of the Bolsonaro government, the scientific denialism of part of the medical community, and the fake news that spread with the help of the speed and agility of digital media. The social, economic, political, and cultural repercussions caused by this unprecedented event in recent history were enormous. Despite the speed at which these events occurred, we cannot let such distressing moments pass without due reflection. It is in this sense that the relevance of this publication is justified. This work is the result of the outreach action of the Interdisciplinary Center for Research and Extension in Sociology of Health (NIPESS) of the State University of Piauí (UESPI) – linked to the Full Degree in Social Sciences course at the Parnaíba Campus, which organized the 2nd Meeting on Political Socioanthropology of the Body, Health, Illness and Death: Reflections and Reflections of the Pandemic, held remotely between January 11 and 14, 2022. The interdisciplinary articles gathered here cover areas of the Humanities, Social Sciences and Education, as well as History, Philosophy and Literature. The writings are the result of the theoretical and empirical debate on the political socioanthropology of the body, health and illness held during the event. The book is divided into two parts: the first brings together reflections by professors on the impacts caused by the Pandemic that, directly or indirectly, reverberated in different fields of social life. In the second part, texts are presented in which students develop themes that encompass the trivialization of death, mourning, the finitude of life, aging, youth, the black body and the female subject.
