 	abstract = "Resocialization in the prison system is the theme of this study, which delimits its focus on the role of the librarian in prison libraries. With the general objective of discussing the role of the librarian in the process of rehabilitation through the mediation of reading in prison libraries, with specific objectives that aim to contextualize the historical process of the prison system, address rehabilitation in the remission of sentence through reading; and to understand the role of the librarian in the process of rehabilitation of the convict through reading. To achieve the desired results, the methodological procedures used were characterized as exploratory research, with a literature survey through bibliographic research and a qualitative approach. The results demonstrated the historical aspects of the prison system, the law of penal executions (LEP), the remission of sentence through the reading and understanding of the librarian's performance in this process.
