Literatura infanto-juvenil: formação de novos leitores

Abstract

This article aims to investigate the importance of children's and young adult literature in the formation of new readers. Reading, especially in childhood and adolescence, is a fundamental tool for cognitive, emotional, and social development. The research adopts a qualitative approach and is based on a literature review, analyzing theoretical contributions and significant literary works. Among the main results, the role of children's and young adult literature in stimulating the imagination, creativity, and identity construction of young readers stands out. The diversity of genres and themes addressed contributes to making reading an enjoyable and formative activity. Moreover, the mediation of the educator and encouragement of critical reading are essential to promote engagement with reading from the early school years. It is concluded that children's and young adult literature is a powerful ally in the holistic formation of the individual and should be valued as an essential pedagogical practice.
