Lembranças de existir: a memória em A disciplina do amor, de Lygia Fagundes Telles

Abstract

The memory, allied to the creative, is basic characteristic in part of the work of the fictionist Lygia Fagundes Telles. Considering memory as a storage capacity and human transmission of past experiences, the author associates invention and memory to delineate past events from the present. Thus, this work aims to analyze the representation of memory in Lygia Fagundes Telles's The Discipline of Love (1980). Therefore, try to trace a course of the author's production and situate her next to the critique that discusses it in the intimate perspective. It is also necessary to verify the path of the studies on the memory to recognize and to articulate its connection with the literary text. The research is qualitative, based on the visions of Lucena (2007), (Bosi, 2003), (2006), (2010) and Candido (2007), (2011), regarding the criticism and the Telles‘s prose; Le Goff (1990), Bergson (1999), Halbwachs (2006), with regard to memory, among others. In The discipline of love, Lygia Fagundes Telles, by handling resources of language and the imaginative process in favor of the representation of memory, allows a network of fragmented, individual and group memories to become evident, with the possibility of the narrator understanding herself.
