Processo de recategorização e relações intertextuais na construção de sentidos de memes mistos e imagéticos

Abstract

The digital environment is full of genres that take as a maximum characteristic point of its composition a game of multimodal relations, such as the meme genre, which builds the senses from the relationship between verbal and non-verbal. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze them critically, observing how these elements are arranged to achieve the intended goals. This way of viewing the text is a very strong trend in current Textual Linguistics’ studies. Therefore, we work with the following problem: how does the recategorization phenomenon establish a relationship with the mechanisms of intertextuality in order to contribute to the construction of meanings in mixed and imagery memes? Therefore, our goal is to investigate the relationship between the mechanisms of recategorization and intertextuality in the construction of meanings of ten mixed and imagery memes on political themes. We work with the hypothesis that the recategorization, found in mixed and imagery memes, in addition to reconstructing the referent presented, may establish an intertextual relationship based on the intertextuality mechanisms, being responsible for establishing the irony, humor and / or sarcasm present in this genre. From the pioneering studies of Apothéloz and Reichler-Béguelin (1995), new perspectives emerged, presenting other positions around the phenomenon, such as the cognitive aspect from Lima (2003; 2009), considering that the recategorization may or may not manifest through referential expressions; and the relationship between the recategorization phenomenon and multimodality under the outlook of Custódio Filho (2011), Cavalcante and Lima (2015) and Lima (2017). Besides that, in order to present the discussions about the intertextuality’s phenomenon, we use Piègay-Gros (1996) and Koch, Bentes and Cavalcante (2012) as a basis. The research is bibliographic, exploratory and descriptive and has a qualitative approach. We collected twentyseven copies of memes with political themes. We used a sample of five mixed and imagery memes, observing in these the recategorized referents and marks of intertextuality, tracing a relationship between the two phenomena. The results of the analyzes pointed to the confirmation of the formulated hypothesis, considering that the phenomenon of recategorization can effect more than one relation in the text, presenting new information about the referent and establishing intertextual relations in texts with multiple semiosis, contributing to the construction of meanings, expanding, that way, our view of such phenomena.
