In this work, we proposed the study of Balada de amor ao vento (1990), first published novel by a woman in Mozambique, and Niketche: uma história de poligamia (2002), both written by Paulina Chiziane. In these novels, we can see the strong influence of the oral tradition that reveals the daily life in which the author grew up, even with the privilege of an education, and access to the Portuguese language. The language spoken in her family is the chope while, in Maputo, they speak ronga, and her father have always been very resistant to the colonial regime and the Portuguese assimilation. This clash of languages lived by the author is reflected in her writing that incorporated the spirit of the oral tradition, even using the Portuguese language. Paulina Chiziane skillfully makes use of narrators who not only narrate stories that go back to the theme of the feminine condition, but also are aware of how to be an active woman beyond the private, domestic and familiar space in Mozambique. This means to live a new war, that is, the war of discussing gender relations in the contemporary Mozambican society to understand that there is no more room for a war between the sexes, but rather a discussion that involves the "recognition of otherness and their possible points of intersection" (ROSARIO, 2010, p.149). During this study, we have done an analysis of the strength and identity of Mozambican women after severe years of enslavement, colonization, acculturation and the denial of their values, by discussing aspects of representation of Mozambican women through the eyes of Paulina Chiziane. In addition, we analyzed how her texts could also influence her people to seek affirmation of Mozambican identity and appreciation of their own ethnicity. Chiziane‘s texts present the Mozambican woman‘s thought and resilience in the midst of adversities imposed by the colonizer and the patriarchal traditions of her own people to represent women as a symbol of resistance. The status of women and the construction of their identity in the post-colonial period was marked by the imposition and force of colonialism while it was mingled with aspects of European culture. Finally, we observed the power that Paulina Chiziane‘s writing has to report situations considered taboo to the feminine universe of Mozambique. She uses the female literary writing in her narratives to represent the voice and the singing of Mozambican women, the reconstitution of a subaltern speech that was misused and repressed during the long past time that still echoes in the present time.eng
