This study aims to describe and analyze the spelling "errors" presented in the writing of the students from the 6th grade of elementary school at a public school in the city of Teresina-PI, with emphasis on the deletion of the phoneme / l / and the exchange to the semi-vowel / w / in syllabic coda. It also seeks possible solutions in order to decrease them. The spelling consists of a complex system and has several peculiarities that students should consider, as has several rules that are of different nature and involve diverse skills to their acquisition. In certain times, students need to observe certain letter position in the word; in others, observe the morphology, etymology, semantics, and so on. Consequently, it is proposed such a study that aims to know the spelling system with its regularities and irregularities in order to promote a reflective teaching. The study is based on the collection and analysis of spelling "errors" in students' writing, through targeted activities and spontaneous texts. It has as main focus the theoretical assumptions of Educational Sociolinguistics and its effective contribution to mother tongue teaching. To discuss the theme, this research is guided based on the following questions: Why students delete the phoneme / l / and often exchange by the semi-vowel / w /? The teaching of spelling developed in the mother tongue classes has contributed to reduce spelling "errors" present in students' writing? The "spelling error" in this research is seen as constructive and important so they can plan situations and teaching strategies that enable students to transform it into an object of reflection with a view to the acquisition of orthographic system. A study on the deletion of the phoneme / l / and the exchange by semi-vowel / w / in coda syllabic could not help but contemplate a section on the syllable, as in many of phonological processes, some of the problematic issues happen in the field of syllable. Thus, it discusses the notion of syllable, its constitution, phonetic syllable and phonological syllable, so that the subject matter presented here becomes even more understandable. In order to encourage the study, they presented basics of spelling, as well as the contribution of Educational Sociolinguistics for mother tongue teaching, and others relevant to the search. The methodological procedures adopted were based on literature, making the classroom its search field, through the collection of data and its analysis, presenting then intervention strategies and closing remarks. This discussion is based on the theoretical studies of authors such as Bisol (1996, 1999), Callou (2003), Câmara Jr. (1996, 2000, 2008), Cavaliere (2010), Cristófaro (2014), Morais (1999, 2000), Massini-Cagliari e Cagliari (1999), Zorzi (1998) Silva (1981), Lemle (1995), Nóbrega (2013), Faraco (2010), Bortoni-Ricardo (2004-2005), Tasca (2002), among others.eng
